Eliminate Rats from your Home and Gardens

Cleanliness maintenance is the key to abolishing the problem of rats in the home or garden. After all, rats are mainly looking for food. Take away the food source, and the rat problem is solved. But taking away a rats’ food source is not always as easy as it seems. Rats will break into closed cereal boxes and tear open bread bags. Rats will ravish donuts kept on the counter in a closed container. Still, keeping a clean home, being diligent about not leaving food out on the counter, and changing the trash daily, can help keep the rats away.

But if you are concerned that the rats have already made their way into your home, there are some steps you can take to get rid of them, once and for all. One of the main ways to rid house rodents from your home is to block their points of entry. Rats, though some of appear quite large, are adept at squeezing through small holes. Particularly if you live in an older home or building, you may have holes near the baseboards, radiators, or in closets. While the holes are small enough that they never caused concern, these opening may be big enough for a rat to squeeze though. So be sure to seal all holes, especially holes near the kitchen.

Homemade pesticides can also be used to eliminate house and garden rodents. Pesticide can be made from combining plaster of paris, cornmeal, and milk. Another home remedy calls for mixing flour, sugar, and baking soda. These homemade pesticides are easy, cheap and less toxic than many commercial pesticides. The key to using homemade pesticide is to identify rat hideouts, and then strategically place the pesticide in these very locations. Key rat hideouts include basements and crawl spaces, areas in the middle of walls, or even in the back of your closet or cabinets. If rats in the garden are an issue, these pesticides can be used near your plants without adverse effects.

While a rodent problem is quite frustrating, by maintaining a clean home and gardens, eliminating passageways into your home, and strategically using home remedies, you can eliminate your rodent problem.
